PDF Rotator online
Rotate the pages of a PDF by 90, 180 or 270 degrees and save a corrected copy — for scans that came out sideways and exports that open upside down.
How to use this tool
- Choose the PDF whose pages face the wrong way.
- Pick the rotation angle.
- Click Rotate and download the corrected PDF.
Common uses
Fixing scanner output saved in landscape, righting a phone-scanned document, correcting a single stubborn section before merging, and standardising a mixed-orientation bundle before it goes to a client.
How it works
The rotator edits each page's rotation attribute with pdf-lib: the page content itself is untouched (nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed), only the instruction for how to display it changes — which makes the operation instant and lossless, with the file size essentially unchanged. It applies to the document as a whole: every page gets the same turn. That is the right medicine for a uniformly sideways scan, and the wrong one for a file where only some pages are rotated — those need per-page tooling.
Worked example
A 12-page scan that opens sideways: one 90° clockwise rotation and every page stands upright, the file the same size as before, text still selectable, ready to merge or send. If instead the PDF was assembled from mixed sources and only pages 4–6 are sideways, rotate a split extract of those pages (PDF Splitter here), rotate it, and merge the parts back in order.
Privacy and browser processing
Your PDF is rotated in your browser with pdf-lib — the file is never uploaded or stored.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the file size unchanged?
Rotation here is metadata: the page's /Rotate entry changes, the content stream does not. Nothing is recompressed, so quality and size are preserved exactly — unlike rotate-by-rendering tools that rasterise your text into a picture.
Can I rotate only some pages?
This tool turns the whole document uniformly. For a mixed file: split out the sideways range, rotate that file, then merge the pieces back in order — three local steps, all available on this site.
What if my pages are upside down in different directions?
A single pass fixes one direction. Documents with pages at 90 and others at 270 need two passes over split ranges. Truly mixed bundles are usually easier to rebuild from the source scans.
Does it work on protected PDFs?
Encrypted PDFs cannot be modified by the browser library. Save an unprotected copy first (with the password, in a desktop editor), then rotate.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The rotation is applied in your browser with pdf-lib; the file never leaves your device.
