Image Cropper online

Crop an image by dragging a free-form selection over it — cut away the edges, the bystanders, the screenshot chrome — and download the trimmed result.

Quick answer: Choose an image and select the crop area to remove unwanted edges or prepare a thumbnail.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose or drop an image. It appears in the editor at full size.
  2. Drag a selection rectangle over the part you want to keep; adjust it by dragging its edges.
  3. Click Crop and download the cropped image.

Common uses

Trimming screenshots to the relevant window, cutting a product photo to its subject, removing borders and letterbox bars, reframing a photo for a profile or banner slot, and slicing a scan down to the document on the page.

How it works

The crop is a rectangle cut from the original pixels with the canvas: the selection maps to source coordinates, and the output is exactly those pixels — no scaling, no recompression surprises beyond the save format. Free-form means the rectangle is yours: there are no forced aspect ratios, so you crop to the content. For a target slot with a fixed ratio (a 1200×630 share image, a square avatar), work out the ratio first — 1.91:1, 1:1 — and eyeball the selection to it, checking the output dimensions after download. The removed area is discarded from the file; the original you loaded is untouched on your disk.

Worked example

A 3000×2000 photo where the subject occupies the middle band: select from (500, 400) to (2500, 1600) and the crop is a 2000×1200 image — same pixels, tighter frame, and roughly 55% of the file's area gone before any compression. Cropping is the cheapest "quality" upgrade most photos get: it removes the parts nobody was meant to look at.

Privacy and browser processing

Your image is loaded and cropped in your browser — it is never uploaded or stored.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce quality?

The kept pixels are unchanged — cropping discards, it does not degrade. If the result is then saved as JPEG, that save re-encodes once; save as PNG if the crop is an intermediate step in further editing.

Can I crop to an exact pixel size?

You select by eye on the preview, which suits framing decisions. For exact-dimension production (ad slots, print), crop close here, then set the exact size in the Image Resizer — crop for content, resize for specification.

What about the EXIF orientation of phone photos?

The browser displays the image as it should appear (orientation applied), and the crop works on that displayed image, so the result comes out upright. The saved file carries no sideways surprise.

Which formats can I crop?

Any image your browser can display — JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), AVIF in supporting browsers. The download follows the tool's output format options; animated images become stills.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is loaded and cropped locally in your browser; it never leaves your device.
